Old Biloxi Lighthouse
This is the Biloxi Lighthouse in Biloxi, Ms. I took this in October 2011 and if you look close you can see a pumpkin on top of the steps of the new visitors center in the rear of the photo, Jeff

I got to shoot for parts of two days over in south Alabama before a horde of 11 great photographers descended for 3 full days and I got too busy to do much shooting of my own. As a group, we photographed at least 38 plant species, 9 bugs, 20 reptiles & amphibians, 24 bird species, and 1 mammal species.
This is a shot of a leaf on a Tracy's thread-leaved sundew just beginning to uncoil (kind of like a fern fiddlehead). Except these little hairs are covered with sticky sap trapping small invertebrates for the plant to digest. This little guy was in a bog with lots of other carnivorous plants, 3 orchids, and all kinds of other neat stuff!

Mayfly
I've been looking at the neat night-time shots that Jeff & Mr. Mysterious are posting, and it sure makes me want to get out & about for some night-time shooting! Unfortunately, it just hasn't worked out that way. BUT, I did get out & about for about 15 minutes this evening with camera in hand to make sure the local mosquitoes had plenty of food.
There was a mayfly under our security light. It wasn't much of a "hatch" as this was the only one I saw. (And it sure put me in the mood for laying a chartreuse popping bug out by the bushes to try to catch a nice mess of bream!)
Anyway, I moved him over to a twig on the other side of the house for a short photo shoot...
Nikon D300s, Dine 105, f/8, 1/160th second, ISO 720, tripod, floodlight and supplemental off-camera diffused flash, cropped to about 90% of frame.

Gray Treefrog on a Magnolia
I was headed back inside the house on the banks of the beautimous Tchoutacabouffa River yesterday afternoon, and the "bark" on a southern magnolia moved & attracted my attention. It was gray treefrog. The evening light was good, so I got a few shots of the little fellow, including this one where you can see the yellow of it's inner legs that it may flash to confuse or distract a potential predator as it leaps away.
